At Empiricus, we aim to be perpetually engaged in investment research that serve our purposes to be at the frontier of alternative investment.   To this end, we are constantly adopting frontier technology and concepts to inspire our investment research approach and technique. Some of our investment will be highly experimental, but they all have the potential to deliver extraordinary results.

Peter Platzer, knew that he had seen this market trend before. Large, custom, overly-expensive, single-use technologies being replaced by something smaller, standardized, inexpensive and multi-use. Consider that the smart phones that we carry today in our pockets have about the same amount of computing power that mainframe computers had just a couple of decades ago (and your local coffee shop takes up less volume than they did). Space is moving in this direction with the advent of the CubeSat, a standard form factor satellite. A mere 12-months after the spark of an idea to do something with satellites, Peter and his team of non-traditional space engineers deployed the world’s first crowdfunded satellite — Ardusat (a portmanteau of Arduino and Satellite) was launched to serve an immediate need for hands-on STEM education, and to validate that rapid iteration could be applied to space.

Global Fishing Watch uses data broadcast from ships at sea to map more than 60,000 industrial-sized fishing vessels. In 2017, nano-satellite data from Spire increased resolution by nearly doubling the data in the platform.

COEDO TAPROOM

Empiricus Venture invest in joint venture with Japanese award winning craftbeer brewery COEDO, on the brewery's first taproom outside of Japan at 50-56 Paterson Street, Fashion Walk.

Created in the seventies, COEDO is a craft beer made in Saitama prefecture, and more precisely in Kawagoe, one hour north of Tokyo by train. The peculiarity of COEDO beers, is that they are made of Japanese sweet potatoes! COEDO was not always in the beer-brewing business, starting instead as an agricultural company specializing in vegetable distribution.
